STEWART HOFFMAN – Vibraphone/Drums – Toronto-born Stewart Hoffman has a wide variety of musical experience. A graduate of the Juilliard School in New York City, he also studied jazz with vibraphonist David Friedman in both New York and at the Institute of Advanced Musical Studies in Montreux, Switzerland. He has backed headliners at Royal York's Imperial Room, performed musicals at the Stratford Festival, Petrolia’s Victoria Playhouse and Toronto's O'Keefe – now the Hummingbird – Centre, and was a member of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Maracaibo in Venezuela and the orchestra of the Festival de Due Mondi in Spoleto, Italy. He has also performed with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the orchestras of the National Ballet of Canada and the Canadian Opera Company, and recorded for CBC (see full biography).
DAN IONESCU – Guitar – Since winning first prize at the Sibiu '82 Jazz Festival in his native Romania, guitarist Dan Ionescu has performed in jazz festivals in France, Germany, Yugoslavia, and Hungary. Romanian jazz critics have honoured Dan, who was also a founder of the Bucharest Music Academy’s Jazz Department, by including his name in the official European Jazz Family poster by Peter von Bartkowski. Acclaimed by jazz critics as the top Romanian jazz guitarist for 12 consecutive years, Dan recorded frequently at the National Radio Studios and for Romanian Television, as well as performing with the Timisoara Philharmonic Orchestra, and with the contemporary ballet company Contemp. Since moving to Toronto in 1996, he has been performing with some Canada’s top musicians at venues such as the Montreal Bistro. He has also performed at the Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival and the Markham Jazz Festival. Recently Dan toured Japan with some of that country’s most prominent musicians, where he played at the famous Tokyo club Dug and at the Song Bird in Fukuoka, formerly known as the Blue Note.
HARRY TIMMERMANS – Saxophones/Flute –A professional musician since the age of fifteen, Harry studied at Humber College with Pat LaBarbera and went on to perform with a number of well-known Toronto-based orchestras. He has played with the big bands of John Cheeseman and Bob Shaw, was a regular at the Old Mill for two years with the popular Allan Cohen Orchestra, and was also a member of Canadian Conspiracy and Jimmy Eaves and Juggernaut. As a member of the Barry Romberg Band – a band that was a finalist at the Alcan National Jazz Competition – Harry toured Canada, performing at the Toronto and Montreal Jazz Festivals. A dedicated teacher, Harry was head of the instrumental department at Arts Education for Kids in Hawaii, and also taught at The York School in Toronto. He is currently a private instructor at Toronto’s Crescent School.
DICK FELIX – Bass – Dick has more than 30 years of experience as a professional musician performing a wide variety of musical styles. For 18 years, as a member of the Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival’s after hours house band led by pianist Bob Fenton, Dick backed jazz legends such as Roy Hargrove, Wynton Marsalis, Russell Malone, James Carter and Shirley Horn among others. Dick has made other appearances at the Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival co-leading the jazz quintet "Forth Inversion", and also as a member of the Del Dako Quartet – a band with which he also recorded live for Jazz Beat on CBC Radio. A student of the great bassist Dave Holland, Dick has produced and performed on numerous CDs.
